Cogeco Cable – Component Cables vs HDMI Cables

Here’s the deal. Should you use component cables or HDMi cables to hookup your Cogeco HD receiver? Well simply put, you can use whatever one you want.

The only difference is Cogeco’s technical support will not provide technical support for HDMI cables. The reason for this is that Cogeco cable ships a set of component cables with their HD receivers and not a HDMI cable. HDMI cables will work just as good as component cables if not better with a HD receiver from Cogeco.

What’s the difference between component cables and an HDMI cable you ask? Well not much, a component cable consists of 5 plugs, 3 for video and 2 for audio on each end of the cable. While an HDMI cable has the video and audio built into just one connector. If you are looking for simplicity then HDMI would be the way to go.

Below is an HDMI cable

And this is what a component cable looks like.

The moral of the story is that HDMI will work with a Cogeco HD DCT, but if you want to use it do not call their technical support looking for help, you won’t get very far. If you use HDMI you are on your own even though you pretty much just have to plug the cable in.

It’s Cogeco, not Cogico! :)
